The three CMS printouts below are the original files provided on the first tape file of the UTS installation tape. These are used by the VM System Programmer to create the UTS Virtual Machine directory entry and to import a runnable UTS installation image contained in the second tape file. ************************************************************************** FILE: INSTALL UTS A CONVERSATIONAL MONITOR SYSTEM ************************************************************************** a m d a h l UTS Universal Time-Sharing System 1 Installation Procedure 1. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE This is the procedure for creating the Universal Time-Sharing System (UTS) at your site from the distribution tape. The steps required to create UTS are outlined below. 1. The distribution tape(s) is 2400 feet, 9-track, and has density of either 1600 or 6250 BPI. These figures should match the label(s) on the tape(s). 2. File 1 of the tape contains the files that you had dumped to your A disk in order to get the manual you are reading now. 3. File 2 of the tape contains a dump of a 3330-1 disk pack in CMS DDR format. The file will extend across all three tapes at 1600 BPI and reside on only one tape at 6250 BPI. 4. Log on to a VM id that has operator privileges and can update the CP directory. 5. Have the distribution tape mounted and attached to your virtual machine as device 181. 6. Have a 3330-1 disk pack mounted and attached to your virtual machine as device 150. 7. You may wish to make a copy of the tape at this point for archive purposes. 8. The INSTALL EXEC assumes that the distribution tape is on device 181 and the empty 3330 pack is on device 150. If the devices are not set up in this fashion, use the CP command "DEF xxx 181" for the tape and "DEF xxx 150" for the disk (where xxx is the device that the tape and disk were originally on). Issue the command 'INSTALL' to do the restore from the tape on 181 to the disk pack on device 150. Note: if you are installing using the 1600 BPI tapes, DDR will prompt for tapes 2 and 3 at the appropriate time in the restore process. 9. The VM/CP directory entry for the UTS id must now be set up. The file UTS DIRECT has a copy of the UTS directory entry that you should use to do your directory maintenance. A copy of the directory entry has been included in Appendix A. You may have to change the account number, passwords, and the distribution code. The disks must be laid out as they appear in the directory entry. 10. At this point you should have a disk pack on device 150 with a copy of the UTS system on it. You should have the corresponding CP directory entry for the UTS VM account installed and be able to log on to it. 11. You should now detach the tape and the disk from your virtual machine and have the disk device attached to the 'system'. Do the following: DET 181 DET 150 ATTACH nnn TO SYSTEM AS UTSSYS (where nnn is the real device address of the UTSSYS disk pack) 12. Now return to the UTS Installation and Configuration Guide and continue with the installation and configura- tion of UTS. APPENDIX A.
