And a very large part of those patches is fixes to make Perl work right on
some strange machine running Egadsnix somewhere or other.  Larry is trying to
make Perl run on almost everything, and the patches refine its portability.
Not that there aren't any actual bug fixes, but they're fairly few and far
between compared to the portability patches.
