2.9 on an 11/44 with an rp disck

Help! I am trying to build a 2.9 seismo kernel on a pdp11/44
with an rp11 style disc controller (controlling two 80Mb drives).
The Berkeley distribution works and I was able to build a kernel using
the Berkeley sources for my rp sizes and boot it successfully, mkfs
and all. However, since a tm tape drive is not normally what is used
on the 44, I immediately ran into the ts problems of the Berkeley sources.
I pulled the ts stuff off of the seismo source tape and tried compiling
it, with many errors. So I decided to try making an entire seismo kernel.
But the seismo kernel (tm or ts versions, novunix with -i, the
ovunix net stuff generates compile errors all over) manages to boot
(using the /xboot as per README/GOTCHA) manages to print out the hostname
message and then hang in iinit, apparently when it tries to read the
superblock off of the rp drives. It also seems to find only a small
amount of the 1.25Mb of memory that is on the 44, another suspicious problem...
I checked and it appears that the rp.c for both seismo and Berkeley
are the same. So has anyone come across such problems? Anyone sucessfully
used the rp driver the seismo 2.9 stuff and/or have problems with it like
this? Any suggestions or bugfixes regarding all this? All the bug reports
I have found reagarding the rp driver seem to be installed in the seismo
distribution already, but I may not have seen all the reports.
