| Could anyone tell us something about the status of the last release of
| BSD 2.10, e.g. the one with Networking in supervisor space and the
| working F77 compiler and libraries ? (And of course, some bug fixes).

The tape is cut and out at test sites to make sure it boots properly.
There seem to be some problems with the boot process on 11/73s and on
systems which need to boot using RLs. The kernel seems to run fine on
all systems once it's been configured.

Keith will be back from POSIX on the 16th. If we don't have any major
bug fixes by then, we'll distribute the tape as is. Even if I get fixes
for the boot problems that we've seen it'll only take another day to cut
a new tape. I suppose we should test that tape again, so that's another
three days. We'll probably be giving the tapes to USENIX before the end
of the month.

The second (and last) release contains working, stable, and fast
networking. The networking system will only run on systems with
supervisor space. We also have an untested kernel floating point
simulator, a working fortran system, working lpr system, and faster
stdio. The core system is even more stable than the first release. All
in all I think most people will be pleased.

Now, please get rid of those PDP-11s and buy yourselves some real
machines! :-)

Casey

P.S. Did I say ``last'' release?? Let me just say that a few more times
here just to make sure that everyone knows. Keith and I are changing
our email addresses, phone numbers, real addresses, names, and are
considering sex changes all in an effort to avoid ever being asked to
work on a PDP-11 again. Don't even think of asking. We'll hunt you
down and do things to you.
