David Wood at NYU reports that his SGI service rep has said to
format the disk before an upgrade to 3.2. I had heard the same thing
from a number of sources; but when I asked our service rep, he said that
as long as none of the subsystems were older than 3.0, you don't need to
wipe the disk. So I didn't when I installed 3.2 on our 4D/70GT, and so
far so good, with pretty heavy usage (and an ESDI disk).

It would be so nice if SGI could get its stories straight.
