it is possible in general to ignore the horrible crap
present everywhere in SGI (and MIPS and perhaps all system V's)
about stupid pagers getting in the way by setting PAGER=cat.
the most notable exception is inst which appears to use
either its own or ignores $PAGER. can this get fixed for the next release?
furthermore, it does one byte reads and thus screws up people
for whom the stty fails (like coming in over a network).
(for example, trying to do a manual install of everything
means responding to the more? prompt with " 4\n".)
i also note that installing the 3.2 tape 1 assumes you have /etc in your path
(it just does a mknod).
