background: sun3/50 (only 4mb memory), 150mb CDC Wren III, tape drive,
standalone -- no network

I'm putting up a sun3/50 at home. Intended for X11R4/emacs. No network,
just uucp.

I've been told that sunos 3.5 was the fastest, and lightest of any of the
sunos releases for the sun3. However, there is all this neat stuff in
sunos 4.*. Is sunos 4.* slower than sunos 3.5 on a 3/50? Remember that
since this is a standalone with no network, no intentions of ever running
sunview, etc, that large pieces of the kernel can be configured out.

Will the machine run better with a shared library X11R4 i.e sunos 4.x
or static libraries on the supposedly faster sunos 3.5?

The 4.1 manual suggests that 4.1 is 17% faster than 4.0.3. Does this
bring it back into the range of sunos 3.5?

Has anyone compared the two?
