I am replying to my own posting. I received some helpful email replies.
The problem is a bug in ypserv. There is a bug fix available from Sun
which seems to work. All the fix does is suppresses the error messages.

Problem Description:
DNS used in conjunction with NIS may generate syslog messages
to the console something like :
nres_gethostbyaddr: some.name.org != its.correct.IP.addr
