I have posted this before. IME Computers was selling Archive 2150S
150Meg SCSI 1/4" streaming cartridge tape drives for $499. These are
bare drives. To make it external, you will need a small case w/ power
supply (about $100). My friend bought one and has had no problems. He
was so satisfied he recently bought two Maxtor LXT-100 3.5" 96M SCSI
hard drives from them for $299/each. They work great, too.

I have no affiliation with IME, Archive or Maxtor except being a friend
of a satisfied customer.
