NAME
ms - macros for formatting manuscripts
SYNOPSIS
nroff -ms [ options ] file ...
troff -ms [ options ] file ...
DESCRIPTION
This package of _n_r_o_f_f and _t_r_o_f_f macro definitions provides a
canned formatting facility for technical papers in various
formats. When producing 2-column output on a terminal,
filter the output through _c_o_l(1).
The macro requests are defined below. Many _n_r_o_f_f and _t_r_o_f_f
requests are unsafe in conjunction with this package, how-
ever these requests may be used with impunity after the
first .PP:

.sp n insert n spacing lines
.ls n (line spacing) n=1 single, n=2 double space
.na no alignment of right margin
Output of the _e_q_n, _n_e_q_n, _r_e_f_e_r, and _t_b_l(1) preprocessors for
equations and tables is acceptable as input.

pages, other pages, total pages, figures,
tables, references.
.CT no yes Print `Copies to' and enter no-fill mode.
.DA _x nroff no `Date line' at bottom of page is _x.
Default is today.
.DE - yes End displayed text. Implies .KE.
.DS _x no yes Start of displayed text, to appear verba-
tim line-by-line. _x=I for indented
display (default), _x=L for left-justified
on the page, _x=C for centered, _x=B for
make left-justified block, then center
whole block. Implies .KS.
.EG no - Print document in BTL format for
`Engineer's Notes.' Must be first.
.EN - yes Space after equation produced by _e_q_n or
_n_e_q_n.
.EQ _x _y - yes Precede equation; break out and add
space. Equation number is _y. The
optional argument _x may be _I to indent
equation (default), _L to left-adjust the
equation, or _C to center the equation.
.FE - yes End footnote.
.FS no no Start footnote. The note will be moved
to the bottom of the page.
.HO - no `Bell Laboratories, Holmdel, New Jersey

like 1.2.3, where _n tells what level is
wanted (default is 1).

.PP no yes Begin paragraph. First line indented.
.PT pg # - Page title, automatically invoked at top
of page. May be redefined.

.RS - yes Start level of relative indentation.
Following .IP's are measured from current
indentation.
.SG _x no yes Insert signature(s) of author(s), ignored
except in TM. _x is the reference line
(initials of author and typist).
.SH - yes Section head follows, font automatically
bold.
.SM no no Make letters smaller.
.TA _x... 5... no Set tabs in ens. Default is 5 10 15 ...
.TE - yes End table.
.TH - yes End heading section of table.
.TL no yes Title follows.
.TM _x... no - Print document in BTL technical memoran-
dum format. Arguments are TM number,
(quoted list of) case number(s), and file
number. Must precede other requests.
.TR _x - - Print in BTL technical report format;
report number is _x. Must be first.
.TS _x - yes Begin table; if _x is _H table has repeated
heading.
.UL _x - no Underline argument (even in troff).
.UX - no `UNIX'; first time used, add footnote
