Rows are filled before columns. Input is taken from _f_i_l_e operands, or, by de- fault, from the standard input. Empty lines are ignored. The options are as follows: --cc Output is formatted for a display _c_o_l_u_m_n_s wide. --ss Specify a set of characters to be used to delimit columns for the --tt option. --tt Determine the number of columns the input contains and create a table. Columns are delimited by whitespace, by default, or by the characters supplied using the --ss option. Useful for pretty- printing displays. --xx Fill columns before filling rows. CCoolluummnn exits 0 on success, >0 if an error occurred. EENNVVIIRROONNMMEENNTT COLUMNS The environment variable COLUMNS is used to determine the size of the screen if no other information is available.
