MESG(1) UNIX Reference Manual MESG(1) NNAAMMEE mmeessgg - Display (do not display) messages from other users SSYYNNOOPPSSIISS mmeessgg [nn | yy] DDEESSCCRRIIPPTTIIOONN The mmeessgg utility allows a user to decide if other users may write mes- sages to his or her screen. Programs such as talk(1), write(1) and echo(1) are social and display a message on the target user's terminal. Sometimes this is inconvenient. Options: nn Disallow messages, providing peace, and informing the contacting party that `Your party is refusing messages'. yy Allow messages to be displayed. If no arguments are given, mmeessgg displays the present message status.
