Neither routine copies the terminal null character. SSEEEE AALLSSOO fopen(3S), gets(3S), putc(3S), printf(3S), ferror(3S) fread(3S) for _f_w_r_i_t_e BBUUGGSS _P_u_t_s appends a newline, _f_p_u_t_s does not, all in the name of backward compatibility.
