NFSD(8) UNIX Programmer's Manual NFSD(8) NAME nfsd, biod - NFS daemons SYNOPSIS /etc/nfsd [nservers] /etc/biod [nservers] DESCRIPTION _N_f_s_d starts the _N_F_S(4) server daemons that handle client filesystem requests. _N_s_e_r_v_e_r_s is the number of file system request daemons to start. This number should be based on the load expected on this server. Four seems to be a good number. _B_i_o_d starts _n_s_e_r_v_e_r_s asynchronous block I/O daemons. This command is used on a NFS client to buffer cache handle read-ahead and write-behind. The magic number for _n_s_e_r_v_e_r_s in here is also four.
