STARTSLIP(1) BSD Reference Manual STARTSLIP(1) NNAAMMEE ssttaarrttsslliipp - dial up and login to a slip server SSYYNNOOPPSSIISS ssttaarrttsslliipp [--dd] [--ss _s_t_r_i_n_g] [--AA _a_n_n_e_x_n_a_m_e] [--FF _f_l_o_w_c_o_n_t_r_o_l] _d_e_v_i_c_e _u_s_e_r _p_a_s_s_w_d DDEESSCCRRIIPPTTIIOONN SSttaarrttsslliipp opens the specified _d_e_v_i_c_e. Once carrier is asserted ssttaarrttsslliipp attempts to login as the specified _u_s_e_r with the given _p_a_s_s_w_o_r_d. If successful, it puts the device into the slip line discipline. If carrier drops and a SIGHUP is sent to ssttaarrttsslliipp, it closes the device and attempts to repeat the dialup and lo- gin sequence. Available options: --dd SSttaarrttsslliipp prints out debugging information about what it is trying to do. --ss _s_t_r_i_n_g The optional _s_t_r_i_n_g is written to _d_e_v_i_c_e. For a dialup mo- dem, the string is used to specify a dial sequence. --AA _a_n_n_e_x_n_a_m_e SSttaarrttsslliipp assumes it is connecting to a Xylogics Annex box and engages in an appropriate dialog using the _u_s_e_r and _p_a_s_s_w_d arguments. The _a_n_n_e_x_n_a_m_e argument is a string that is used to match against the Annex prompt to determine when a connection has been established. --FF _f_l_o_w_c_o_n_t_r_o_l Determines the type of flow control used on _d_e_v_i_c_e. Choices for _f_l_o_w_c_o_n_t_r_o_l are ``none'' for no flow control (the de- fault), ``hw'' for hardware RTS/CTS flow control and ``sw'' for software XON/XOFF flow control.
