.Sh NAME
.Nm rpc.rstatd ,
.Nm rstatd
.Nd kernel statistics server
.Sh SYNOPSIS
.Nm /usr/libexec/rpc.rstatd
.Op Ar interval
.Sh DESCRIPTION
.Nm
is a server which returns performance statistics obtained from the kernel.
These statistics are read using the
.Xr rup 1
command.
The
.Nm
daemon is normally invoked by
.Xr inetd 8 .
.Pp
The
.Ar interval
argument specifies the number of seconds that
.Nm
should stay active, updating its internal statistics every second.
If no value is specified, 20 seconds will be used.
After
.Ar interval
seconds with no new RPC requests,
if
.Nm
was invoked from
.Xr inetd 8 ,
.Nm
exits.
Otherwise,
.Nm
loops, becoming dormant until it receives a new RPC
request, and staying active until
.Ar interval
seconds pass with no new requests.
.Pp
.Nm
uses an RPC protocol defined in
.Pa /usr/include/rpcsvc/rstat.x .
