Its really too bad AFS 4.0 got mixed up in the Sun vs OSF wars and ended up as part of DCE as opposed to being its own technology.

OpenAFS is (still) a thing. Runs at Morgan-Stanley (or some other finsvc house) and is kept going, reasonably healthy, by hackers. www.openafs.org
