It was written by Pat Autilio: https://www.linkedin.com/in/patautilio/

I do have a copy of the source. It's all marked up with comments like:

 *      Copyright (c) 1984, 1985 AT&T
 *      All Rights Reserved

 * THIS IS UNPUBLISHED PROPRIETARY SOURCE
 *      CODE OF AT&T.
 * The copyright notice above does not
 * evidence any actual or intended
 * publication of such source code.

But then again so was all the other dmd/layers stuff at the time, and
most of that was opened up, if I'm not mistaken, by Dave Dykstra
(e.g. the dev5620 package even came with a GPLv2 COPYING file).

So I suppose I could make it available....
