I gave my little book report to the class. Somewhere in the room, a
throat cleared. And then Ted Tso began to speak...

What can I say? I once read a literary criticism of Conrad’s Nostromo
titled Record and Reality by Edward Said, about how the stories we
tell about events eventually diverge from how they actually happened.
I think that’s what happened here too. I told the record, and then
reality showed up.
