[TUHS] History of cal(1)?

This is not a full answer to your question but cal appeared in Research UNIX 1st Edition, Nov 3, 1971.

I'd be interested to compare the source code, in terms of how it was implemented, between the original and the version I have on this phone which is part of util-linux 2.40.2.
