Curious that your tape doesn't say "C++ Translator" but everything else lines up. The above source distribution has a README starting:

> This is the AT&T C++ Translator, Release 1.2

And throughout the README the word "Translator" with a capital T is repeated over and over. The 1.2 release that is preserved is not technically pure, it's a modified version for a Pyramid system, but the original files are also in there, just not wholly virgin.
