The weather is changing and I've also used up my CI/CD minutes on GitLab
in a matter of days, so something is telling me November is a month for
scanning instead. As such, I've started chipping away at some of the
USG documentation I've acquired in the past year. Here's a bit of what
I've started on:
https://archive.org/details/unix-program-documents-program-generic-issue-3
After the link is an archive.org listing which I'll be slowly adding
documents to. For now, it contains PG-1C300 Issue 3, which is the
documentation index for USG Program Generic Issue 3, as well as
PO-1C300-01, the System Initialization section including descriptions of
bootstrapping and installing the system. This listing will be a bit of
a slow burn as I work through the various papers involved, but basically
amounts to "Volume 2" or "Documents for UNIX" for the Program Generic
releases. For the record, a number of these documents are also captured
as part of the USG Library archive on TUHS. I believe the copies in the
USG Library archive to be closer to the Program Generic Issue 2 era
whereas these are from Issue 3. For instance, the installation
instructions have been updated.
Anywho, I'll reply here as more of this is scanned. Be forewarned that
these are not first-generation copies, so are a bit fuzzy already.
Still, when completed, this should result in nearly all of the PG 3
documentation being preserved. There are a few odds and ends missing,
some of which are filled in by the USG Library, but I'll do a more
thorough breakdown once all the documents are scanned.
I also plan to mirror these over to the TUHS archive but am going to
get it all scanned up to archive.org first.
