Login and uucp

I have written a login routine for SysV AT&T and Interactive unix. Although
it works, a few items are unresolved. These are:

1. What is the use of ALTSHELL= and CONSOLE= in /etc/default/login?
What action should login take with these parameters?

2. What special action (if any) should be taken if the login shell
is /usr/lib/uucico? For example, should login set the uid/gid to
    uucp/uucp?

3. A 'strings' on the AT&T login indicates that files /etc/dialups
and /etc/d_passwd might be referenced. What are these used for?

Thanks a bunch,

       tony
